Case Study - Review Report For Texashardwoodflooring Website

A professional website review report for a flooring website, designed to improve performance and boost profits.

Review Brief

Website: Texas Hardwood Flooring

  • Let's start from the top of the page. Your navigation menu must be improved. First, it's not a good idea to use two separate menus. In terms of usability, they are confusing and ineffective. Second, the logic flow of the main menu is not good. I'll explain.
  • "About us" shouldn't be the first link on the menu. Users never read about a business before reading first about its offers. The first link on the menu should be related to your services.
  • It doesn't make sense to place the blog as the second link. A blog is like an informational e-newspaper attached to the product. It can provide valuable generic information, but it's not the main topic of the website.
  • The same with FAQ. This is a very important page, but before the FAQ, users need to see a link related to your services. Yes, I know you have a second menu for services, but this essential content should have been first on the menu.
  • Bottom line: You don't need two separate menus. Place a product link as the first link on the menu, with a dropdown submenu. For example, Flooring Types.
  • The top background video is very impressive, but I wouldn't place it on top. Why? I'll explain...
  • First, I checked your page speed with Google's speed checker. Your page received a speed score of 45/100, which is very low! Slow pages are annoying, affect users' experience, and may impact your SEO. A static image would be better than a video.
  • Secondly, users today (especially mobile users) don't stop to stare at this type of presentation. They usually scroll down pages and look at the main headlines and titles.
  • Thirdly, since it's a very nice video, I wouldn't use it as a darkened background but as a regular video further down the page or on a dedicated gallery page.
  • Bottom line: I'd replace the video with a static, impressive image.
  • It's not critical, but your logo doesn't make a good impression. The first reason is that the domain name and logo business name are not the same. The second reason is that the logo emphasizes location instead of professional competence. (The same with the graphic feature).
  • The headline and subheader are fine. However, placing the contact form at the top of the page is not a good idea. Contact forms are not nice or impressive design elements. The form harms the page's first impression. Besides, what's the rush? You can place it at the bottom of the page and of course on the contact page. It can even damage your professional image because usually only small businesses stick their forms on top.
  • Speaking about the form, the asterisks should be present only near the name and email fields. Why? If a person doesn't want to provide the phone number or prefers to talk about the details over the phone rather than write them in the form, they will just drop the form, and you'll lose a client!
  • "Install, Improve, Refinish...". This is a good title. But the subtitle and the paragraph that follows are not related to the title. Under a "install improve refinish" title I'd expect to see a text that talks about the importance of maintaining my property's floor in good condition, or why it is important to install it by pros and not amateurs. Keep in mind that people who land on your website are looking for immediate solutions to their flooring problems. They are not interested in reading about the people behind the business at this preliminary stage.
  • The next text paragraph repeats the same messages visitors read in the previous paragraph. At this point, your content becomes a big problem because people with limited time or motivation may click away!
  • The five cards are very good! Finally, valuable and practical information.
  • The "Why us" section should be placed on a separate page, not on the homepage. It's important to have it, but not important enough to be on the homepage.
  • Schedule a consultation should be the final call to action at the bottom of the page.
  • "Learn about hardwood flooring". This is not a good title. First of all, people don't like to be treated as students. It would be a good idea to replace the word "learn". Second, since you offer several types of floors, why focus only on hardwood? Explaining the differences between the different types of floors, or how to choose a new floor (for example), is more efficient. Learning about a specific floor could be great for a blog post.
  • The dark blue backgrounds you're using are not good for your kind of service. Dark blue is cold and gloomy, while the hardwood floors in your photos have warm, elegant colors.
